Having too high amounts can be dangerous, but what about those with low levels? In this article we are taking a closer look at which sources have the highest amount of vitamin K.

 

Food Sources

The richest amounts of vitamin K can be found in leafy vegetables. The greener they are the then the higher the amount of vitamin K. There is a wide array of these vegetables including spinach, lettuce and broccoli. Also certain types of lettuce can be great sources.

Some have suggested that it is one of the vitamins for hair growth as well as one of the vitamins for acne and seeking it out in foods is a great way to add it to your diet. Beyond just basic vegetables there is another typical source which are herbs.  These usually contain relatively small amounts of vitamin K compared to the leafy green vegetables. You need to take large amounts to change the vitamin K levels in your body. Good sources are watercress and parsley.

Some oils have vitamin K in their nutrient list as well. We find some oils to be particular good for the purpose of increasing vitamin K levels especially soybean. Mayonnaise, margarine and butter from soybean extracts also include vitamin K. Make sure you switch to these alternatives if your levels are low.

Any diet should include legumes. These have various benefits to the health, but for the interest of this article they have large amounts of vitamin K.

Supplementing with vitamin K is also possible. There is a range of different types of vitamin K supplements out with many different dosages and for many people taking an over-the-counter supplement is still one of the most inexpensive and convenient ways to get vitamin K.
